It worked in Myanmar because the military never really lost the power they had when they ruled the country previously.
When the Parliamentary constitution was formed, the generals ensured they still had the balance of power. That was a point not often mentioned when Aung San Suu Kyi - awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace - was accused of doing nothing to stop the army's oppression of the Muslims in this mainly-Budhhist country. She simply had no authority over the military.
Your FOOTOO was in a totally different position, in a country whose military are told what to do by an elected government and have no stomach for taking power as in Myanmar. If he'd ordered them to stage a coup they'd almost certainly have refused.
Myanmar is not "smarter" but has a powerful military with a lust for power over its citizens.

FOOTOO and the crackpot HATE grups have the lust for power and you could clearly see that manifested on January 6. Could you see the U.K. citizens reacting as has the hate-based FOOTOO adoring worshippers? Bet you are laughing right now at the thought! :)
