In politics and religion the "not us" is always "the enemy". "The other" is never accepted or trusted or liked. WHY IS THAT?

Why can't "the other" simply be "the other"? Why is it always "the enemy"? Who says so?

    I have no enemies. 

    I have political policy positions. 

    And as far as religion goes....I love God and follow Him.  If you leave, me alone...I will leave you alone.
