Texas did not winterize and insulate it's power grid structure. It failed them a few years ago. They knew what to do. WHY DIDN'T THEY?

Too cheap?
Too stupid?

Texans don't like regulations.

Well good for them. Now they are suffering for ignoring what could have prevented all of this.

Good for them. Good for them. Good for them. No lousy anyone is gonna TELL THEM WHAT TO DO.

The weather was more extreme than anticipated.  More extreme than a few years back.  They will adjust and make more changes.

No one new this was coming.   On Jan 21 the Weather channel was telling us about the much warmer February coming up and staying into spring.  (Just about 2 weeks before this hit)

But yes. They had mutliple failures. Solar, Wind and Natural Gas all failed because of the extreme cold.

Actually, this event was on the CPC (Climate Prediction Center) forecast maps 2 weeks in advance.   The NAM and ECMFW models predicted the Arctic Oscillation would move down into the US (given the position of the strong Pacific ridge and the deep trough forming over the Aleutians).

Extended forecasts rely heavily on climatology (how things usually happen).  Global warming throws a wrench into the works.  Since its happening now and not in the past, forecast computers have a hard time compensating for it.

Someone should have let the Weather Channel know.

What I think is extra sad is news channels like Fox were blaming the mass power outages on wind and solar power plants freezing up. Wind and solar power plants only account for 12% of Texas power so how can they be solely responsible for the mass outages? Gas and coal power plants also frooze up but Fox didn't mention that because they support Trump and Republicans who are against the New Clean Energy  bill. Another reason  the power plants failed is because in the 80's they were privatized and those companies put profit first. Cheers and happy weekend!

    24.8%.
They took 3 coal plants offline because of these solar, wind and natural gas. These all failed.   natural gas freezing was the biggest problem.

Coal plants remained consistant. They did not freeze.
