You'll never know the attacker's motive because he was shot dead.
I can't quite recall if the news said he died at the scene or in hospital, but so far at least he was thought to have acted alone.

Had he lived he could have lied about the "why". Just another gun-adoring crackpot who went off the rails for whatever reason. More to come no doubt. Sad that. Thank you for your reply Durdle! :)
