I wouldn't consider all of those to be stereotypes.

You wouldn't even though each labels an entire people? So you pick and choose which are stereotypes to YOU? I see. It's a personal decision and not rampant or ubiquitous or inherent or obligatory or intrinsic. Different strokes. I see no difference whatsoever among them E. You do. Ever it shall be thus. Thank you for your rely.

I am only referring to those on your list. The first three are not. My mother was a Jewish mama, although I have never heard that term.

WOT? WHAT? WHAT WHAT WHAT? You have NEVER heard the term "Jewish mama"? I think that is so very strange. A JEWISH MAMA adores her kid and grandkids and envelopes them in mountains of love 24/7. She worries about them and feeds them if they let her until the day she dies. She does not limit that love. Everyone gets fed and hugged and worried about. I guess your saying that means I've heard just about everything in life  now. That would top the list for me. It happens. Thank you for your reply E. Shocked I am. Libretti (scripts) for some of the greatest operas are in Italian. Others are in German. And the Jewish mother is notorious for the following anecdote: A mother buys her son two new shirts. When he appears the next morning wearing one of them, she asks, "What, you didn't like the other one?"

Geez Stu that is hilarious and SPOT ON! I just let Jim read this reply and he giggled too. SO TRUE! But they are so darn lovable and filled with love and worrying about you. Thank you for your reply and Happy Tuesday to thee and thine! :) Everyone should be so lucky to have a Jewish Mama in my opinion! :)

I think all those qualities are intrinsic to motherhood, Jewish or not.

No m'dear. They SHOULD BE but they are not. Otherwise you would not read of women who murder their children. And you do read of that from time to time. Mothering is instinctive in some. But just because you give birth does not AUTOMATICALLY kick  in a mothering instinct. You read of couples who torture their children who die. Again that is not rare. A fathering instinct and a mothering instinct does not  exist in some parents and their children pay a terrible price for it. Read the newspapers. Keep up with life as it is lived. What you say is idealistic and not realistic. Thank you for your reply SSB and Happy Thursday to thee and thine. From this another question arises.

I wish there were some way to stop it. You know like we pretty much stopped polio. I know its apples and chipmunks and not remotely alike but still I wonder if there is a way to prevent folks who will harm their children from ever having any? SIGH. Thank you for your reply SSB! :)
