I would buy them all and rent them at high prices to the more affluent rednecks.

Beneath me?  That really made me laugh.  I've never lived in one but my sister and her husband have a new one that is what they call double wide.  It's a huge brand new home sitting on a $190,000 lot on a canal.  Hardly would be beneath me.  I don't know what they paid for the house but it was specially built for my state's stringent building codes due to hurricanes.  There are lots of these houses down here................whole subdivisions of them.  They are not cheap or affordable housing by any stretch.

This time you said "own" rather than "live in."  The benefits of home ownership would be the same for a manufactured home as for a stick built one.  I have no idea about appreciation of them though.  In some states the taxes on them are not even close to being as bad as stick built homes.  They are taxed as vehicles rather than real property.  Back in my home state that was determined by the permanence of the structure.  So, it differs by state.

    Good luck

I grew up in a double wide.  Me and my husband s first home was a cheap trailer. We own a stick built home now.
But in terms of brand new double wide manufactured home or new stick built home, the double wide are normally nicer. This post was edited by my2cents at October 25, 2016 4:50 AM MDT
