Perhaps we all need to rethink saying "THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE" to a Vet. Why stop saying it?

A Vet asks
"What are you thanking me for? Killing other human beings"?

Pause, Reflect. Think.

Many vets suffer from PTSD. Some turn to drugs or alcohol. Some commit suicide or kill their wives or both

So we know/are told WAR IS HE**.

Unless we've been there we don't know the nature of that HE**.

What do we say instead? I have no idea.

I always thank a vet for their service. I also always thank those who are still in the military. I  thank the firefighters and the police as well. Unlike some people, I truly appreciate what they have done and are still doing. Perhaps some vets feel the way you said but do we need to stop thanking all the vets because of that? I will continue to thank them for their service. I don't need to rethink anything.

Because service is not about killing people. One needs to think before one speaks.
