"Laugh and the world laughs with you." Doesn't that depend on WHAT or WHOM or WHY you are laughing?

"Cry and you cry alone". Not true. Some people are very kind and caring and when you cry they are there to try to comfort you.

So I guess I don't get the saying at all. Do you?
