You only have to be 18 to be a state senator or state assemblyman. Citizen. Resident of state for 5 years and resident of district for 12 months immediately preceding election. (In a redistricting year, may be a resident of county for 12 months immediately preceding the election.)

I'm so angry I could spit nails honey. I spent the early morning RESEARCHING the candidates for replacing our GUV. Of course we vote NO to the recall but we also will vote for a replacement.
I did not resarch any Republicans of course. But I researched everyone else including Independent LIbertarian and Green as well as Democrat. Do you know that there is only ONE CANDIDATE we could possible for? ONE! The rest are jokes and clowns and olr porn stars and reformed drugs addicts and pro cannabis spokesmouths! I wish I were joking but I am deadly serious. I expect the good folks are all way too smart to run. So we voted for that ONE. He has the creds the background tne education the interests we can support. So what is my problem? He is 21 years old. NOW I have nothing against being young. He might do a wonderful job. But my drutheres? Someone who has been around a few decades and fought the fight. It was either vote for him or no one. There is a 70 year ex porn queen named ANGELYNE running. I wish I were joking. There's a guy whose background info "DO YOU DIG IT"? No other credits or background or sales pitch. So no we don't "dig it". There's a former drug addict whose main interest is drug addiction. A cannabis pusher who wants no laws controlling it. Then there is a hair stylist. I have nothing against them but what experience education does she have that would make her a good Governor? Talk about one-trick pony's boy oh boy. I did the research and then went over it with Jim. Poor guy..I vented my anger and frustration..not at him of course but boy was I revved up. I've calmed down. The ballots are done and we will mail them Tuesday when we go out. NO DROP BOXES. One was vandalized somewhere. We will just mail them as we mail our bills. Sorry I vented at you but my gosh is this what we have come to? :(
I understand your dilemma completely. We had a similar issue with the next mayor of New York City. One of the most uninspiring slates of candidates I could imagine. I'm pretty sure Eric Adams will win as NYC has a Democratic majority and because Curtis Sliwa has the slimmest of qualifications for the job. In this day and age and in this environment, I can't imagine why anyone would want any of those top jobs.
