Did you hear that the last Sears store in the world closes today?

This was the last one in Toledo. It closed in September 2017.

So what? Lots of chains no longer exist.

Sears was kind of an icon. I worked at the one in the pic before I joined the Navy.

How can the last one close today if, as you posted above, it closed in 2017? And newsflash: Amazon is a much bigger icon than Sears ever was. The Internet guarantees that.

I guess that was misleading. I should have said the last one in the world. I'll change it.

That's OK. Sears has become increasingly irrelevant over the last 25 years, so I doubt anybody cares.

True, but I did like their tool stores. We had one in the neighborhood.

I remember those. But now we have Home Depot and Lowes.

Mr. Bromide must be so sad today, extra sad.

Sears has been going out of business for 25 years.  Surprised it took them this long to close the last store.

I know that Sears has been having financial problems for years, but I wasn't aware that they had closed their last store. I realize that companies come and go, but the Sears stores in my area were almost always the favorite places to go for pretty much anything you wanted or needed. It's a shame. Whenever I see the name Sears, I get a shot of nostalgia. :)

Do you remember when Sears owned Allstate Insurance?

I sure do. I also remember many years ago when my neighbor used to let me take his Sears Allstate motorcycle for a ride. That gave me the motorcycle bug for sure. :)

Dang. I had a friend who had one. It was a piece of crap. The two of us worked at the local Sears gas pumps. That was 1969.

Their website it still up. Says I can order and pick up in store??? I wonder how that works.

The location is hours away or I would try it to see.

Now that I think of it, Walmart has basically replaced Sears.

  • There are still a few Sears left in California. There is one in San Jose.

I'm not sure if there are any K-Marts here left. The last one I knew was in South Lake Tahoe and it finally closed last year.
