Why is AnswerMug so notorious for sometimes sending multiple notifications for the same reply, yet sometimes sends none at all?

    They are different notifications  based on how you are related to the question/reply. 

    ie: If it is your question you get a notification. (UserA  replied  to your discussion)

    If it is a reply to your answer...you get a notification.  (UserA replied to your COMMENT)

    If you are subscribed to a question you will get a notification  anytime a user posts an answer or a reply.  (UserA posted on a DISCUSSION  you are involved in)

    If all 3 of these apply to you,  you will get 3 separate  notifications  for 1 post.

    After  your first answer on your question, make  sure  you remain subscribed  to it or you will not receive notifications of any posts to it. This post was edited by my2cents at December 29, 2021 8:22 AM MST

    Not so.  I get multiple notifications for the one and only thing I posted on a question.  It's an aggravation but not the most aggravating thing about the site.

    The notification(s) received  will depend on what was posted by another user.  

    If they reply to your  COMMENT  then you will get a notification.  (UserA  replied  to your COMMENT: ) 
    If you are also subscribed to the question.  You will also get the (UserA replied  to a discussion  you are involved  in: )

    If you do not want this notification  make sure the Subscribe to Topic box is unchecked (under the question) And when you post and answer be sure to uncheck the "Send me notifications when other members reply to this discussion." box. (Under the Answer box)

      The notification feature of this website does not always work the way it’s supposed to, it does not always work the way that a member has set it up for his or her account. 

      Those are simple facts.

    What explained is how it works for every user.  There are no setting for notifications  on the site. There are setting for emails from the site about notifications.  

    Of course we all also get notifications if someone  likes our posts.  I do wonder if a user likes then unlike then likes as post again if that results in more than one notification about the user liking the post. My logic says it would.
