It is perplexing. People have died trying to come to America for a better life and those who survive and go on to become naturalized citizens are so joyful. The relative ease/disdain with which many American citizens have given up their citizenship is shocking. They give up something that others are willing to die to achieve. Why is American citizenship valued so highly by immigrants and not valued at all by those who renounce their country?
