Randy D runs past you on a city street and yells, RUN! DON’T JUST STAND THERE, HURRY!”

You begin running, but do you run in the same direction that he’s running, or in the opposite direction? (Remaining in place is not an option.)

Neither.  I'd go diagonally, away from either direction.  (I ain't falling for that one again!)

I need another epidural before I go anywhere.  The last one didn't work...at all.

I'd run for the nearest unlocked bicycle.

This sounds like a crappy movie scenario. You are running down (or is it up?)  the street away from a monster/alien/tsunami, as is everyone that didn't get vaporized, crushed or drowned. You are doomed. I am going down a side alley perpendicular to the street. Why don't they do that in the movies? This post was edited by Element 99 at March 21, 2022 7:02 PM MDT

I think ... unless the street is on a hill ... "down the street" applies when the street numbers are getting lower, and "up the street" applies when they are getting higher.

I don't think I'd slow down enough to read address numbers, but good point.

I'm running the same direction as he.....at least initially.

I immediately play "Yakety Sax" on my iphone and then take off running after you, of course.
