When I joined the Marine Corps at age 18, I soon realized that the stories must have been written by an actual military veteran, because the way the units were laid out and worked together in combat mirrored real life military organization. A weird twist is that today I cannot remember if I came across the stories before or after I joined. I don’t remember having read them any more after about age 22, 23, or 24.  More than a decade later, I began trying to dig them up again, but I had lost the scent. I dropped the search and picked it up again a few times, but that was pre-internet, so it was quite difficult. Even now with search engines, I still haven’t picked up the trail. I have never been able to recall the title(s), author, publisher, settings, place names, character names, nothing.
