Have you heard that the US Postal Service will be raising its rates on July 10?

Here are some price changes that you can expect to see at your local post office:

  • The price of a First-Class Forever Stamp will increase by $0.02, from $0.58 to $0.60.
  • The price to send a one-ounce domestic letter will increase by $0.02, from $0.58 to $0.60.
  • The additional ounce rate for single-piece First-Class letters will increase by $0.04, from $0.20 to $0.24.
  • The metered mail rate for First-Class one-ounce letters will increase by $0.04 from $0.53 to $0.57.
  • Postcard stamps will increase by $0.04 from $0.40 to $0.44.
  • International one-ounce letter rates will increase by $0.10, from $1.30 to $1.40.
  • Media mail rates will increase by 9%. Rates now begin at $3.49 (previously $3.19).
  • The prices of other services, like Registered Mail, Signature Confirmation, Return Receipt, and Certified Mail, will also be impacted.

    There was a time when first class mail was guaranteed to be delivered in 2 days at the latest.  No more.  I mailed  a Mother's Day card to my niece in Joneboro, AR ten days before and she got it four days after Mother's Day. This post was edited by Spunky at July 7, 2022 11:22 AM MDT

    Yikes. Ours also takes an extra day. We used to have a sorting office here, but now everything goes up to Detroit. We want it back.

    Next time, try sending an e-card from Amazon. They have very cute and clever ones with singing dogs and such, you can add a gift card, and they get delivered instantly by email. Why patronize a service that is so unreliable?

    Maybe I should not have asked.  I thought I was the only one around here who still wrote and mailed letters and cards.

    And email is still free. The postal service has become nothing more than a bloated bureaucracy with too many employees needing to justify their existence.
