Discussion»Questions»Music» Gilbert & Sullivan. Rodgers & Hammerstein. Lerner & Loewe. Lennon & McCartney. Why is the lyricist always billed before the composer?
I don't know if Art actually wrote anything, he was just a singer. Paul Simon didn't just write stuff for himself and his sidekick, either. He did Red Rubber Ball for the Seekers, and teamed with Seekers multi-instrumentalist Bruce Woodley to write the pretty but depressing I Wish You Could Be Here.
But normally people remember the singer on most groups. And the singer is the hardest to replace as well. Most do not do it successfully. I can think of AC/DC and Van Halen.
