There is a utility you can install on your computer called GWX Control Panel which will stop Windows 10 from trying to take over your system (at least if you have WIndows 7 like I do, I don't know if it works with Windows 8).
They did that to me too, eventually I had no choice, they went ahead and upgraded my windows 7 to 10. In the end I'm glad they did though, it has more stuff.
