Poor sleeping woman set on fire by an illegal on the NYC subway. No one helps???

:

Questions:

1. Why are people just standing there?
2. Why is the poor woman just standing there?
3. Why aren't the police helping this woman?
4. Does no one know to smother the flames not even the police?
5. Are bystanders worried about being charged or just stupid? One guy is literally fanning the flames..

    Wow just found more info.

Answer to 2: The woman is older and needs a walker so she cannot move. There are pictures of a walker in front of her while she was seated.

Part of 5: The "by-stander" who I thought was just dumb but trying to help by fanning his coat towards the woman, is actually the illegal who set her on fire.   How evil can a person be? This post was edited by my2cents at December 24, 2024 4:26 AM MST

I intend none of this in a disrespectful way to the woman nor her family.

I'm here on-site for only a sec - - but earlier today I did some research on the incident, too. Couldn't find a lot of details as far as, admittedly, it looking as if an officer walks by. Reports said the police did help her immediately.

I had no problem earlier today clicking your link in your question and watching the video. Now that site states the video doesn't exist.

What I did watch, yes, #2 -- I thought why is she just standing there. It even looked staged to me. The person seemed to be just standing there, not in pain, in what looked like tight clothes; and simply standing with her clothes afire.
If she can't walk without  walker, how did she walk to where she was and then just stand upright on fire. (Maybe I missed seeing a walker in the video.) The reports I read said she had been lying down on a bench, sleeping, when she was set on fire. I then wonder how she she rose upright, started walking,  -- I don't know, in a panic, who knows? She may have. She  looked like she was standing, leaning forward on a table or something. I don't know. I'll stop.

I'm going to wait to find out more as far as the person (I don't care from where he may originate) who set her on fire and other details. The police, too.

And the several people standing there in the video with their phones above them, recording it all while she burns? I can only hope there are other details happening in the moment to explain their filming behavior.

I'm close to apologizing for my entire post. I'll just stop.

I just seen where the video is now gone. ( I added another link to a shorter version on the original video above)

I thought the same things? Why isn't she moving?  Etc.

But watching the police (2 officers) just walking past the scene, really blew my mind.   I saw an police news conference and they searching for fire extinguishers.  They should have been smothering the flames....
