Do you know Ireland is now accepting American refugees?

Are you thinking of emigrating? Many Americans are.

I suspect that's more of a symbolic gesture than a real humanitarian offer.

If 5 million Americans accepted Ireland's offer (particularly if those Americans were poor/uneducated), I think the welcome mat would be withdrawn relatively quickly.

  • I think the ones who are considering going were those who didn't vote for Trump.. we are told that the ones who mostly voted for Trump were those who were less well educated.. figs gave indications that it was white people with no college degree. Those who were better educated, i.e. had a degree tended to vote for Hilary.

Why did Syrians leave? Only a few years. No one knows what's coming.

  • Didn't they leave because of the war going on in their country?

  • Lol Karen.. tiny is a matter of perspective..Ireland is a truly gorgeous country.. with beautiful scenery and lovely people.. The Irish have always had a very special relationship with America and i believe there are a good many Americans already there and vice versa

Ohh and just a technical correction.. Ireland isn't UK per-se.. *some* of it is.. Northern Ireland.. that's fairly small.. the rest of Ireland is the main and bigger part of Ireland.. and that is not UK.. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at November 12, 2016 12:25 PM MST

  • Why? It won't be better in Ireland. I couldn't afford to move. It's not something that you can just do easily.

Plus, Trump isn't king for life. Four years goes by really quickly. Now a second term, and you might have something to worry about.

If you're so concerned, I would start working for change during any mid-term elections. That's when the real power can shift. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at November 12, 2016 12:25 PM MST

I might be a little behind the times, but I thought the Irish economy wasn't doing so well and that there was very high unemployment.  If that's true, unless you're retired and on Social Security, what would you gain by moving there?  Of course, if you have a guaranteed income, I can certainly see why one would opt to live somewhere with a less stressful lifestyle.  I could easily see myself living in one of those adorable little cottages with flowers growing all around it at the top of a lovely lane.

  • That's just being provocative. I wonder how many hundreds of thousands of euros that costs.
Doesn't look like social housing to me.

Not Ireland, but maybe Australia. I have been told by two AMers here that they are in need of science teachers there. Hmmm.
