A similar thing happened last year when a family acquaintance had bought a new car and was giving someone a ride home. The passenger was heavyset, and plopped into the passenger seat, tried to adjust the backrest by merely leaning/thrusting backwards into it forcefully, but it had automated controls that required just pushing a button for adjustments. The entire mechanism broke, and the owner was hopping mad.
The person who broke it is living on Social Security, has no money to pay for the damage, and the insurance policy doesn’t cover it.
