Is the brainwashing hypnotism depicted in "The Manchurian Candidate" possible? Can it be done on a large scale? Are PET supporters examples?

Because this idea?  Let me tell you how inane  it is.  Trump's election is the second most ridiculous  thing that ever happened, but this question? It beats that by a mile.  

Yes, the entire country has been mentally controlled to vote for Trump.  Little green men came in at night and put drugs and hypnotic tapes in their ears. 

Is that it?  Or maybe, we are a Nation that did this to ourselves.   We are our very own Manchurians.  We are lazy and complacent and this is where it got us ALL.  Not from some insipid movie plot.   Where are you going next to Aldous Huxley and 1984?  Big Brother IS watching. I can make a better case for that book/movie.


Yes, a person can be brainwashed to some extent.  I doubt highly that it has been perfected to this level.  I doubt highly if it can be performed on more than a smattering of people and get expected results.  I doubt VERY highly if it can ever been done to a nation.
