Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Obama has been dignified/intelligent/thoughtful/graceful/competent. We don't know what PET is yet. D'ya think he'll be adequate?
LOL I will hold you to that then.. and when you are wrong can I laugh my head off :P Seriously a man who has no manners, little intelligence, and who insults everyone and everything other than his cronies nothing good can come of that UNLESS the system prevents him from doing as much damage as he promises
I have many differences with President Obama (particularly my contention that he's a tyrant and a war criminal), but I will grant he shows a depth of intellect and a certain level-headedness (at least in public, I've read he can be temperamental in private) which I find admirable.
The evidence to date suggests Trump will be very different. Within the past week, Trump has taken to Twitter to whine about the cast of Hamilton pleading its desires to VP-elect Pence and about Saturday Night Live caricaturizing him.
Yes, taking to Twitter is a trivial response, and these are trivial incidents. But THAT'S EXACTLY THE POINT. Trump is taking the time to focus on such trivia and to complain about criticism that ANY president will inherently endure. Experienced rational politicians know the best way of dealing with it is to ignore it, or play along with the jokes (which has the effect of disarming the criticism). Trump, apparently, does not understand this.
I think the checks and balances inherent in our political system, along with organice political pressures (e.g. other GOP politicians tell Trump to quit being such a thin-skinned self-centered nincompoop) will mitigate the damage Trump can do, but I suspect there will be many more incidents such as the ones I describe above.
Even if I dislike the PET I dont think you should talk about him in such simplistic old fashioned macho ways. Having courage isn't about size of cajones and the ahole is not even worthy for a disagreement in the kindergarten.
@Ran -- According to many Trump supporters (who tend to be authoritarian), his displays of histrionics and threats against perceived "enemies" IS a display of his "cajones."
I tend to disagree. To me they are the hallmarks of narcissism and bullying, but we can't assume everyone has the same definition of "cajones" as you do.
