Would canned squash be the same flavor/substitute for a recipe as fresh/cubed squash?

I'm making some stuffed shells that call for a squash, but I think canned could be used, too right?

Why? It says for ingredients on can: Squash. So it is simply squash, pureed. Which is what I need for stuffed shells filling, ricotta cheese, garlic, parmsean and also pureed squash.... ?

You said "fresh cubed squash."  Canned squash tastes nothing like fresh squash, and it is cooked to a soft texture and probably sliced instead of cubed.  It's very wet and seedy as well.  I would not consider it myself.  It might be improved since the 70s; that's probably the last time I had canned squash.
