Does it bother you when....

someone misreads what you post and goes on a long tirade about how wrong you are, and nothing they are saying has anything remotely related to what you posted?   I'm not talking about anything that has happened to me, just speaking in general.

  • For me it really depends on who it is. Some people get an idea in their heads and dynamite wouldn't shake it loose. :) Some want to argue just for the sake of arguing. I tend to not even bother with those when they get started. YOU are nowhere near difficult to deal with. :)

  • If be willing to bet you're not as difficult as you think you are.  It does get thing popping, not always in a constructive way though.

  • No it doesn't bother me as usually they eventually realise their mistake.. and are sorry.. I've misread or misunderstood a few times.. to err is human to forgive is divine.. I am someone who likes to forgive especially if it was a genuine mistake

  • That's what i try to do. I've had people on here, and other sites, argue about something I said. They kept repeating what I had just said but twisted it like I was arguing my own point. Nothing I would post would get them to see we were saying the same thing......those I just walk away from. :)

It happens often on the internet - religion and politics being two of the major areas where people simply argue points not made. It's one kind of troll.

  • You are correct about that.  Some postp political questions just so they can argue with you.

I think your complaint may be a subcategory of a broader phenomenon.

What I often observe is if someone asks question X, people who respond will dance around Question X, but never ACTUALLY answer question X.

My suspicion is people wish to assert what they believe without ACTUALLY EXAMINING what they believe. Hence, they ignore anything which would force them to take a good hard look at what they think. This desire to avoid self-examination leads to all sorts of behaviors, including the one you observe.

Bother me?  No.  I might make a reference about stupidity but am not pulled into the conversation they are having with themselves.

  • "Nope!"  Hate consumes the hater, not the hated.
