From what i have seen he was largely symbolic.. people seemed to be saying that things like this is the first day of my life that i have woken up to a world without him in it... whatever one might think of him - many admired him.. many didn't of course but he wasn't universally disliked.. .
Apparently Nelson Mandella was a fan of Castro... and as i said elsewhere.. the Pope apparently sent a supportive message....
Whether he himself had any impact for the last few years I have no idea...
Yes, I read that... cubans who had apparently fled the oppressive regime... Interesting tho that those same people are immigrants... there are many Americans who allegedly dislike immigrants.. and believe they threaten the white supremacy they believe in.. they say they will ruin the society.. and are dangerous.. or is it only *some* immigrants who are considered acceptable and others who arent? Is it down to race? Colour? Are Cubans one of the OK immigrants? They aren't entirely white are they?
@Daydreamer -- No, you seem to be genuinely confused by Americans' inconsistent and hypocritical stances on immigration ("Latino immigrants are ebil...EBIL!...Unless they're Cubans, in which case they are OK")
"Stoopid" people are the ones who claim there is some underlying rationality (besides "We like Cuban immigrants because we can parade them as 'proof' the USA is more awesome then Ebil Commie Cuba...and they tend to vote Republican") to Americans' typical views on immigration.
