Have you ever been in a holding pattern for so long you had to land, get fuel and go back up?

Not so silly if you landed in another airport for fuel to then go back to your holding pattern.

    Yes. One time on a flight from Southern California to Atlanta bad weather caused long enough landing delays that our flight had to divert to another airport (Birmingham, Alabama IIRC), land, take on fuel, and then continue on to Atlanta.
