Discussion»Questions»Politics» Trump saved 1,000 jobs and holds a rally to boast. Obama created 178,000 jobs and says NOTHING... I'm gonna MISS that guy...
Presidents really have nothing to do with creating jobs. They are just lucky enough to be in office when they come and get to claim it. In reality it has nothing to do with them. Nor is it really their responsibility or job to do so.
It appears that Trump has only saved about 800 jobs out of about 2000 at that Indiana plant and the taxpers will pay $7 million a year in tax breaks for that deal. And Trump has the audacity to complain about what a bad deal NAFTA, et al were.
By GOP standards, that's a relative bargain. Only $8,750 per job saved!
In contrast, when GOP lawmakers were criticizing the Obama administration for bailing out the "Big 3" automakers in 2009-2010, it came to light many of them were from Southern states where foreign-based automakers (Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, BMW, etc.) had put up factories...thanks to MASSIVE government incentives sometimes on the order of $100,000 per job created.
As I noted previously, whatever the merits of the policy of "saving jobs" at Carrier, it has NOTHING to do with purported GOP economic policies. It's pork-barrel politiices, pure and simple.
I am not sticking up for Donald Trump. But really, does this make any points? He did not even get into office yet. Obama had 8 years to save that paltry amount. I am not picking on Obama. I don't get what SAVING jobs even means. It sounds like a big ass lie to me. How does a President save jobs anyway? What is he doing up there that saved any jobs? How many jobs are there? Fist you have to look at that issue before you can determine what was saved and what was not.
