There are a variety of political isms. Is PRAGMATISM a political ideology as much as is Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism, Communism?

Have we ever had a Pragmatist in the White House serving as President? Would a Pragmatist do a far better job for we the people than anyone with a rigid political ideology laden with rigid principles like Republican, Conservative, Liberal, Democrat? Why?

  • No not really.  It's a philosophy that can be applied to political theory though.   A pragmatist sees thought and methods is best used as a means to an end.  A focus on practical implications and results. I'd argue that  most of our Presidents have been pragmatists.  "Why Glis, how can that be so? "    A core tenet of pragmatic thought is that there is more than one way to see the world and conclusions that can be drawn from it.  A pragmatic approach can be applied to any desired outcome.  So both the socialist and the capitalist.  The dictator and the democrat. All can be pragmatist.
