Because once the intelligence community figures out they're supposed to tell Der Pumpkinfuhrer what he wants to hear, they'll provide useful PR cover for the Pumpkin.

Down the road, Herr Pumpkinhead will be able to make ridiculous statements about geopolitics and say, "It's not just me, the intelligence community is saying the same thing."

This technique was perfected by the Darth Cheney/Boy Emperor regime.

    General #1: Invadiing/occupying Iraq will take 500,000+ troops and a 10-year civilian nation-building committment.
Bush Admin: Sorry, we want to do it with 150,000 troops and assume Iraq will just self-organize after we overthrow Saddam
    General #1: That's ridiculous, I resign.

    General #2: Invadiing/occupying Iraq will take 500,000+ troops and a 10-year civilian nation-building committment.
Bush Admin: Sorry, we want to do it with 150,000 troops and assume Iraq will just self-organize after we overthrow Saddam
    General #2: That's ridiculous, I resign.

General #3: Sure, we can invade/occupy Iraq with 150,000 troops. We'll be greeted as liberators.
    Bush Admin: You're hired!
Bush Admin (to public): See, we can invade/occupy Iraq with 150k troops and we'll be greeted as liberators. General #3 said so!

    Hello again, Rosie:

I think OS's numbers are pretty good..  That means 2/3's of the intelligence community BELIEVE their job is to produce INTELLIGENCE.. 1/3 of 'em BELIEVE their job is to make the boss happy..

Will we hear from the 2/3's???  You bet we will.

    Hello again, Rosie:

I'm just trying to put a good spin on it..  Even IF the 2/3's make a lot of noise, the noise that matters is the noise going into Trumps ear..

PET just announced that his choice for Secretary of State is Tillerson, Exxon CEO and  longtime beloved bedmate of Putin. How does that grab ya?  :(

@excon -- I think you somewhat misunderstood my point.

It's not that 2/3rds of intelligence community is honest and 1/3 are butt-kisssers. It's that the community as a whole will learn Der Pumpkinfuhrer doesn't want to hear anything except what he wants to hear....and enough of them will value their careers over their self-respect to give The Pumpkin what he wants.

It was the same thing with Iraq. ALL of the generals knew the Iraq invasion/occupation plan (whiich the Pentagon had spent YEARS developing in case the scenario ever came up) called for 500,000+ troops and a 10-year reconstruction effort. But, after the first few told the administration that and were rebuffed, the others figured they'd better go along with the politically-driven alternate plan, because that's the plan that was going to be instituted, regardless of who was picked to institute it.

I suspect SOME intelligence community members will go public with their concerns, but much like few people remember the generals who said "It will take 10 years and a half-million troops" with respect to Iraq, I think the honest dissenting voices will be drowned out by the Washington Press Stenographer Corps, who will all dutifully report, "Trump said X and his intellgence advisers say they agree with him!" How has being honest and reporting what's really going on worked out for Chelsea (nee Bradley) Manning and Edward Snowden? Because it would cost a ton of money to re hire them after Trump is out of office. And then it would take tons of more money to get the intelligence agencies back up to speed in what's happening around the World. Like if Trump stays in office 4-8 years and there are no intelligence agencies out there every day they could lose their connections that help them gather information. Cheers
