I'm in the camp that a little fear and darkness is beneficial for children. I think all the positive and sugar coated stuff leaves them unable to handle negative emotions. That's another story.
For those who don't know The Krampus is a folk story in certain parts of Bavarian and Tryol Alps and Austria. He comes with St. Nick and while St. Nick rewards good children, bad children are handed over to The Krampus and he uses a bundle of birch sticks to punish them and takes them to be boiled in a tub for his Christmas dinner. St. Nick shackles the beast in chains and bells to keep him at bay except for the naughty kids.
