Do you know your Celsius?

Apparently the Bahamas, Belize, the Cayman Islands, the Republic of Palau and the United States are all countries that use the Fahrenheit scale whereas all other countries in the world use Celsius to measure temperature.

Do you know your Celsius?
Should Celsius be the temperature scale by default when talking temperatures, after all it's the most used scale?

  • I think Brits used to use Fahrenheit and just like inches/centimeters for a long time we all knew both... but in recent years we seem to use Celsius more

According to the list i found you did get this one straight (no pun intended) by now. Just like the metric system. It's only driving in the right side of the road that hasn't been implemented. Right is right, the word tells all there's sin to know. ;-)

By the way, do you think that's the true reason why you guys ended up with Brexit?

  • LOL you are fun :) but of course you know really the rule is keep to the left when walking/going up stairs, corridors etc.... that's another thing we have changed recently I have noticed. it always used to be that going up stairs we kept to the left and that way no one got in each other's way  - but anyway, I digress... we all know you guys need to learn to drive on the left :P

Are you a crazy woman? Walk to the right or you will cause a chaos! Even bigger than the Brexit. Don't give me back my tics. XD

Pfft. Typical isolationist tunnel vision. Next you're going to tell me the moon is made of cheese, and you know because you guys had Armstrong there. Anyone... anyone know 0°C is the freezing point and water boils at 100°C. How hard can it be? Sheesh.

    Don't even mention Kelvin!

  • Meh,   Water boiling and water freezing is a pointless and arbitrary measure that only creates a larger interval of degrees.   Fahrenheit is better since their is no need for half degrees when reporting weather like it does in Celsius. When it comes to temp. in a degree system,  smaller degrees equals better.

( Actually I'd be all for a switch from degree based systems and go to Kelvin.   It's an actual true measure of something tangible.)

Denial, denial, denial. All i hear I say a denial. Kelvin is off the records just like Video 2000 and Betamax. No need to be obstinate. *there there*

  • Plus if the USA switches to Celsius we risk becoming too Canadian. It's all about stopping the influx of the Canadian culture threat.  We can't let them win.

Nah, we're all important in some way. Besides living in a place on Earth with free movement of goods and workers it takes more to scare me.

We tried to change back in the 70's. Every time the local weatherman reported that the temperature was 32 degrees Fahrenheit and 0 degrees in Celsius, he kept being asked 'where is Celsius and why is it so much colder there'?

  • Know it? .   Pfff! .. quick method of converting C to F in your head .. and accurate :)
    Example ... 100C ... Double it (200) ... Take away 10%. (20 .... Now 180) ... Then add 32 .... 212.... Easy peasy
No need to send money .. this is A PSA :)

Now why in the heck would you want to convert to Fahrenheit? The heat in my oven is measured in Celsius! Hmm.
