No need to. I know when I feel grateful for something, whether it is a simple service or something special. There are some occasions when the feeling is overwhelming and I've been unable to express it. One such was when I was coming out of a general anaesthetic after an operation. The surgeon hand come to check on me in person and put his hand on my scalp: it felt warm, soft, and relaxed. It felt like a hand of infinite compassion. I was still unable to speak, but I wept tears of gratitude.
