    You might find a place to rent in a trailer park.

    Best is it being someone suggested by a mutual friend or something like that. 

    Ask around at work, at Church, at your kids' schools, at your manicurist, etc.  Use bulletin boards at those places if they are indoors.  Also, some property management companies will, for a price, find a tenant for you without you contracting with them for continuing service.  They do the background and credit checks and all you have to do is look at the paperwork and pick which one you want.  Good luck.
