Discussion»Questions»Pregnancy» Can former drug addicts/alcoholics give birth to healthy kids? Is there any long-term damage done to the reproductive system to prevent it?
Depends. What drugs and what damage did it do to their bodies and reproductive system. For the most part a former addict can give birth to healthy babies but there are cases with some drugs where permanent damage to the reproductive system can occur. It might not result in birth defects directly but can severely hamper the ability to carry a fetus to term or become pregnant in the first place. It could also cause secondary problems. A mothers liver and kidneys could be so damaged by past drug use that she isn't able to remove toxins well enough from her blood with the added stress of carrying a baby and those toxins could cause problems for the fetus.
Either way the person likely will know they are at risk of something bad if getting pregnant if these kinds of damages occurred.
Well, it is a danger, but most people have kids and they seem to be about as normal as the rest of the dysfunctional children out there. I mean there is no way to tell what is causing hyper anxiety with pesticides and preservatives and sugar and white flour all going down their innards anyway. If you don't think that plays a role in messed up minds, you need to study health and well being.
It depends OF COURSE. How long did they drink? What age did they start? What did they drink and how often and then do this with the drugs. What kind is the big issue.
It just seems logical to me that over-use/abuse of alcohol or drugs for any period of time must permanently damage the physical body in some way. I know there are many things in play though. Thank you for your reply Sharonna and Happy Saturday! :)
