Yes, if I don't know you and you were not expected, I am not answering the door. Hope you brought a pen and paper so you can leave me a note and leave your phone number and when I have time if I care, I may return your call.
Sometimes I don't even go downstairs when someone knocks. My friends know to call before stopping by. If I'm downstairs and I see someone approaching the door I look out the peep hole to watch them try to figure out what to do. I have an old-time manual mechanical doorbell with the twist knob on the outside of my front door. No one yet has known what that knob was for. But everyone looks at it scratching their head. So, they eventually just knock.

Three types of people come to my door---the ones I am expecting, the ones I am not interested in speaking to, and the ones that are unknown (wrong address, local fund raisers, etc.)
Fortunately the 3rd group is only about 10% of those who "ring."
That is somewhat dependent on my mood or what I am currently doing.
But I never feel obligated to answer a door bell or answer a ringing phone.
