A question for men and women, as they relate to "intimacy" and alcohol or drugs.

For the Men. . . Is it your experience that alcohol lowers inhibitions in women enough to turn them from a no or a maybe, to a yes? Do you think that's fair play? Have you purposely done this in order to kinda, help her say yes to you?
And for the Women. . . Have you ever gone into a situation with a maybe in mind, that was changed into a yes after a couple of drinks? Do you think that's fair play? Have you ever purposely done this to kinda, help yourself say yes to this guy?

For us straights, we are hardwired to (at some level, perhaps atavistic) to consider others of the opposite sex as potential mates.

One thing that alcohol (the only drug I have experience with) does is to mute the superego so that you no longer hear the prohibitions against the many things you might like to do but were told not to do.

That's simply what one of the temporary effects of alcohol has on our choices of what to do.

Too much alcohol tends to minimize what should be a personal connection.

So, no, I never have purposely done that.

  • Do you think it is wrong to do purposely tho? I don't mean two people having fun and all of a sudden their eyes meet and, you know the rest. I mean, is it wrong to you, to do it on purpose?

  • Was it because of lack of opportunity, or did you never want to because you thought it was wrong?

  • Not proper opportunity and morals, both. Also boils down to, was never a drinker, to speak of.

  • It's just occurred to me that I didn't think in terms of rightness or wrongness in the days when this sort of thing was an issue.

I'm looking at it for the first time now in those terms, is that odd?

  • A little.
What do you think, dear Lucia. Do you think it is wrong to purposely engage in drinking behavior with the goal of a physical encounter in mind? With it be the same if I were to openly tell the person that my purpose is to get her drunk so I can, you know, show her what time it is?

  • I like to drink and yeah sometimes I drink too very much. But I've never drank enough to turn a no into a yes in regards to sex. I once jumped in a river naked once while drinking though . I probably wouldn't have done that sober....well I would... But not at a bbq infront of a bunch of people I know. I should probably cut back On the tequila.

  • I think there is a scale here.  Not black or white and highly circumstantial.

  • I don't know what that means. In my case, no, I have never done that on purpose. And yes I have noticed a stronger tendency to complacency after a couple of drinks, but I'd like to think that the willingness was there from the beginning. But who knows?
Tell us what you really think?

  • There's getting a buzz on and partying with someone who there's a flirtation with and just showing them a good time.   Seeing where it goes.
    ( nothing wrong with that)
Then there is trying to get someone wasted in hopes they will through caution into the wind while wearing the beer goggles.   They are willing players in getting that wasted and still made a conscious decision, though like jumping off the garage roof, prolly would have passed if sober.
(  Getting creepy and a little grimey.   Still not really wrong, just sleazy and desperate.)

Then their is pushing someone to drink and intentionally manipulating them into getting so intoxicated they are beyond the point of expressing their will or even knowing exactly what is going on.  Pushing drinks or whatnot they don't want. or when they clearly are getting sick and not really having fun.
(  Now were at the point that it's doing something wrong and abusive)
