Trump Dossier

It is now believed that a former MI6 agent, Christopher Steele is the source of latest Trump bruhaha.

I don't like Trump.  But, due to Steele's subsequent actions, I am dismissing the latest "intel."

This current situation has left me wondering if Steele had any involvement in the British intelligence info regarding Saddam Hussein''s non-existent WMDs.

I THOUGHT the Brits were our friends.  Now, I'm thinking they still haven't forgiven us for declaring independence all those years ago.

What do YOU think about this latest development?

    Hello Harry:

I dunno whether the current bru ha ha is true or not..  I DO believe Trump is STUPID enough to have gotten COMPROMISED by the Russians.   Look..  Trump criticized Republicans, Democrats, the pope, U.S. elections, the C.I.A., the F.B.I., NATO, and Meryl Streep.  The person he HASN'T criticized is Vladimir Putin.

    Something IS going on.

I don't believe it. Not because Trump isn't capable of whatever is in the report. He is no perfect and has a long history of impropriety.

But because it has been out there for many months. If it was true I believe the media, the Clinton campaign would have proven and ran with it. We know the media did not want Trump to win. If they couldn't confirm it....it probably false.

I wholeheartedly agree.  I felt the same way about Obama's birth certificate when Trump & others were screaming about it after the election.  If anyone could have found proof that Obama was born in Kenya, it would have been Clinton during her run against him.

  • Let's see.

Part of the answer is in your question.  'Former' is exactly right, as this man has been earning his living privately for at least 10 years.  It's common for security personnel to carry on some aspects of their work after retirement, just as this man has done.  That he was asked to provide information on something involving Russia fits with what could be called a specialist area for him.

So far as I'm aware, he was first asked to gather information on Trumps Russian links by Republican interest groups/supporters during the campaign for the selection for presidential nominee.  That information was also bought by similar Democratic groups after Trump's selection.  At some time (I'm not sure when) it was also passed to the US authorities.  So Steele seems to have sold his work twice (nothing wrong with that by the way) and given it once to three different groups.

Whether the information is accurate or not it is unlikely to be proven (unless it is true and Putin and Trump have a falling out).  There really is no way of knowing, and assuming it to be unsafe information because it hasn't previously been released is ... optimistic, I think.  Truth has little place in politics.  It's about what you can get people to think is true.  Perhaps these claims were considered too outlandish as a simple smear and would need some evidence to be usable.

As for the man's involvement in the WMD fantasy, I think that is highly unlikely but not completely impossible.  I have no doubt a bit of a search over the next few weeks, as more details of his career become more widely known, could answer that part of your question more fully.

Now, what's this nonsense about 'friends'?  He works for who pays him, not the UK government and so far as I know they have had no involvement in his activities.  So, 'UK PLC' isn't on the spot for this one and neither are the population as a whole.  :)
