That would have been a reasonable price. They were $18.

Assuming that Price is Right rules apply, and not knowing the tax rate in your state, I'll say $11.67 + tax.

  • Damn.   I wrote $17 at first and then second guessed myself.   It looks like a trendy place  and that means expensive.   Still I thought I might be over shooting it a bit at first.

I have no idea about the price level of yogurt in the US. Meh.

This wasn't normal US yogurt. It defied all odds. This particular company is self-serve and puts out a buffet of toppings, then weighs your yogurt on the way out to determine the price, but they didn't even have a rate listed. It came to $18, but I'm fairly certain even a normal upscale place wouldn't have gone much over $10.

Sheesh. Holly macaroni, that's a lot. Even compared with some of the most expensive countries in the world.

The place I like is similar, with the toppings bar, but they just have a set price for each size cup, and you make it however you want it. I think their largest cup, which is huge, is only $5.79. The small one is under $3.50.

Unless those gummy worms are REALLY expensive it sounds like one of the suppliers had an udder on the scale when you were checking out . . . Or maybe the tare weight was set incorrectly on the scale?

Did you ask for a receipt and look at the unit price they charged (and they should have that unit price prominently displayed, my State requires that, by law), and at the weight of the product you purchased?

I mention tare weight because they shouldn't be charging you for the weight of the cup, not that that's a significant # on a single purchase. But if they weighted all three cups then, at best, the tare weight was set for a single cup so they charged the product price for those additional two cups. Again, not a significant number for an individual purchase, but over thousands of cups sold at yogurt prices it adds up . . .

Good points. The store did not have prices listed at all and no receipt was given. They did weigh all three cups together, so even if the scale was calibrated to remove the weight of one, I certainly would have been hit for the other two. Then again, maybe the guy just mentally subtracted the weight of the cups. I have no idea. They caught me at the end of the day and I had small kids with me. While I was shocked by the price, it just wasn't worth the effort of asking questions or fighting.
