Okay Rosie.  By now we all know you HATE Trump.  You can stop knocking him now.

Geez.....enough is enough.  We're tired of it.

No, he knows EXACTLY what he's doing.

"Law and order" has long been dog-whistle code on the political right for "bash the heads of the poor/young/urban/ethnic" (whether literally or figuratively). It was the precursor to "welfare queens", "strapping young bucks", "state's rights" (the modern version), "takers", "culture of poverty" and other similar dog-whistle phrases.

As has been noted here many times, the rate of violent crime in America has PLUMMETED over the past 20-25 years. We have more "law and order" than we've had in several decades. I'm sure Mr. Trump is aware of that, too.

Given the two above realities, I infer The Donald is using the phrase "law and order" to fire up the racist/xenophobic elements in his voter base, and I think he is doing so consciously.

  • Gotta admit Rosie has a point on this one.
Specifically WHAT will Mr Trump DO to "... restore law and order" ???
Like many of his other catch-phrases they sound good in a speech but he is very short on hard facts about his proposed policies and actions that would make this happen.
Trump is very good at inciting the crowd but very short specifics of HOW he will make his grandiose visions a reality.

He reminds me a lot of the rethoric of Richard Nixon in his speeches during the 1972 election campaign before Watergate took center stage and brought down his administration.

Once again I seem to have missed the point completely OS. I take what people say LITERALLY. As  you've pointed out to me before certain words are "code words" for something else. I never know what that "something else" is so I'm stuck with what I THINK people are saying being unaware of what they are actually communicating. Mahalo for your thoughtful and helpful reply. I think I used the word "thug" and that was another "code word". I don't know why I always seem to be behind the 8-ball when it comes to things  like this. Being a literal person in an illiterate world isn't easy. You are my translator I guess. I appreciate it. Happy Monday!  :)

Thank you for the "atta girl" Showaddict and your reply. Think we will ever see any roadmap or blueprint from Trump or will it all begin and end with empty words? Happy Monday! :)
