What's your favourite Yogi Berra quote?

Here's one I hadn't heard before: "In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is."

  • He was ask by his teacher in class after a terrible score on the test. "Don't you know anything?" He responded: "I don't even suspect anything."

  • Love it. Sounds like the man who was asked if he had a reservation and said, "Reservation? I don't even have an Indian."

  • He was at Spring training during the time streaking was popular and one ran across the field and went over the centerfield wall. His friend asked him if it was a man or a woman.  He said, " Well, I don't know, they were wearing a bag over their head."

  • That's Yogi. I don't know if anybody will quote this one but he once sdaid, "You know, I didn't really say all those things I said." And for once he was pretty right. His good buddy Joe Geragiola was responsible for a lot of them and used to blame Yogi for a joke. It's nice to have friends. :)

Great question Didge.  I grew up watching both Berra and Garagiola.  The two of them were never boring!

Most of my favorite quotes have been posted already.  Another one I always liked:  "A nickel isn't worth a dime today."

  • Am I right in thinking that Yogi and Joe were boyhood friends? Grew up in the same street?

Yes you are correct Didge.  Their families lived across the street from each other.  To give you a better understanding of how close they were, I found this in case you are interested.

  • Much appreciated, Harry. That photograph at the top of the two old men is poignant. And the final sentence was an eye opener for me. I thought he had been named after Yogi Bear; I didn't realise that Yogi Bear had been named after him. (I bookmarked the page so that I can come back to it again.)
