It's definitely dangerous but not as bad as its reputation. I tried to learn when I was 60. Scared the daylights out of my instructor. Been parasailing (behind a boat) but never tried kite surfing. That'd be tops!
Mrs Didge always wanted to sky dive till she tried hang gliding. She thought the jump would be too brief after that. Bunge jumping is a bit too exciting for my taste. Can cause a lot of eye damage. Thanks, Happy.
I haven't. I like activities where my feet are on the ground. A friend was killed parasailing..............he was an instructor. His young children were watching from the shore.
So sorry, Thrifty. One of my sons had a bad accident paragliding (out near Mudgee). He ran afoul of an angry eagles and while he was trying to get away managed to crash land. The trouble with pragliders is that you land coccyx first and he damaged is spine. A couple of years later he's fine, and back to flying again.
It is 5,495 ft. long and it took 1minute 15 seconds to come down, so that is about 50 mph. You don't see her in the video but my mom who was 74 at the time was to my right.

yep that is pretty fast at that we just don't notice it much. yeah it's like those big wind power turbines they look like they are moving so slow ...But they are going 80 mph.
A few years ago my mechanic was a HangGlider I was very close to buying one cause i had been watching him really cool... Unfortunately He fatally crashed ...after that I just didn't want to fly anymore Back then the rigs were so big...better stuff now ...but now, maybe
Sorry to hear that, Baba. They're still getting their share of fatalities but techniques and kites have improved and it's not quite as dangerous as it was.
Nah. He's in his 40s now and his kids are about the same age he was then. He flies hang gliders these days. Here's a photograph he took of his own shadow on a cloud as he flew over. The white flecks you can see are the waves breaking on the beach and rocks, far below.
