Some humans do this already. You just can't see it because you normally aren't looking for it.  Also, some people hide it well.
The trick is to find the similarities in both creatures and their personalities.
#1) Fear.  How many people do you know who are trying to run from something mentally or physically, yet going nowhere?  For the hamster, it is a giant hand grabbing his whole body and sometimes forcing him to do things he doesn't want to.  For humans, metaphorically, it is the same.
#2) Hunger and thirst.  For the hamster, he has to rely on his human friend to feed him.  For the human, if he doesn't do what he is told to do, he won't be rewarded either.  He has to do what others want at work to eat, drink and provide for the family.
#3) Exercise.  For the hamster, even though he is going nowhere, he is keeping his body in shape.  There is always that giant cat he has nightmares about.  He best be in shape to out run him.  For the human,  sometimes we run at the gym and swim in a swimming pool going nowhere.  If we don't keep our physical body in shape, we become jello on a stick.

As you can see, there are many reasons these behaviors already exist in both hamsters and humans.  The hamster pen-ultimately, has to for surviving in the cage we provide for him.  The human has to do the same.  We call them houses and parents for a while.  Then we call them bosses and spouses.
Having a clean house, eating well and staying in shape benefits both beasts.. The hamster and the human.
