Can a talking bird really understand what it's saying?

Do you know any examples that suggest either Yes or No?

  • I knew someone that had a talking bird, don't know what kind it was....the family was somewhat religious and had the preacher of the church over for dinner....apparently, the bird decided to talk away saying "I'm a chit bird" lol!

  • In the circumstances the family probably thought that was nothing but the truth.

I heard and read about this bird quite a few years ago. Some birds are incredibly intelligent and demonstrate, as Alex did, that they do understand human language and have amazing intellect.

All that bird can do is mimic you. Not necessarily understand you.

  • There are a few videos around that indicate it can go further than that. Saw one the other day (the reason for this question) that showed another bird with far more than repetitive abilities. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at February 3, 2017 10:13 PM MST

While a talking bird probably does have a better grasp on what words mean than most Trump voters, they have no clue what those words mean beyond, "Hey, is this going to get me some attention?"  They like to be noticed.
