12 years attending public school and 4 years at a public University. Do you think I qualify? Dang...never-mind, I'm not a billionaire.

  • I think this country needs someone like you to help our sorry Education system. I can't lend you a billion but I sure would help you out! It's what they need! Down home people to get the education system back on track.

  • I agree you *should* get the job, you might even make sense... but see you'd be out of place among all those others who sit there and theorise and assume they know..  btw I am putting that into the context of OUR education system where the head of the dept of education is usually some stuffed shirt who hasn't a clue and just wants to change things for change sake... then they change it all again when they realise they messed up.
BTW too a public school here is a mega posh mega rich kids school and the equiv, I think is state school

That sounds like many of our school administrators. Our equivalent to your public schools are private(Usually Catholic) schools. We also have charter schools but most of them suck.

  • The confusing thing is.. we have private schools too.. so it goes like this.. state schools for anyone.. private schools for rich parents .. then public schools for the mega mega rich posh nobs.

Due to the number of rational posts you make here on AM, I believe you are overqualified for the job.

I have four nieces and nephews and a couple of friends who are public school teachers and they are trembling at the thought of DeVos heading the Department of Education.

I really want to know the real reason he picked her.  A sense a big reveal coming sometime down the road.

She's got plenty of money and she probably contributed heavily to his campaign.

I am just happy that my son is not in the school system anymore. If he was I would consider home schooling him with what may happen now.

Can you imagine what this country would be like without pubic schools?  Betsy DeVos is not in favor of public education.  Don't we already have enough dummies?

And private schools are not free.
Who is going to pay for the kids that can't afford it?

Bingo. Some of them recruit jocks who are economically challenged.

That was eaxctly my point.  Those who can't afford private school would remain devoid of knowledge.

If that is the way he is planning to help all Americans, we don't need his help at all.
