    If I said it correctly, it would be pronounced with two syllables.  Off-ten.  The first syllable being the heaviest.  Off-ten.  But, having a lazy, slangish tongue most of the time, it comes out Ahhf-hen.  The first syllable still being the heaviest.     It depends on who I am talking to and how formal the discussion. If it is a professional or formal discussion and I am being particular of my diction, I will say off-ten. If it is a more casual setting I will say off-en.

  • I often drop the t and say offen but, equally, I often say off-ten.
