What is the most interesting bird or animal found in your state?

  • Believe it or not there's also a verified Sasquatch in Minnesota. It's not the usual hairy kind but Sasquatch who used to answer questions on Ask. :)

    Absolutely Didge!  She does exist!  And a fine specimen she is!  She is in hiding again; but, when she was out and about, she was great to chat with and had many bits of knowledge on a variety of  topics she shared with us.  I would love to see her come out of hiding.

  • We won't see her back on line. She and her family moved house, she completed a course, got a job she loves (in real estate), and the last time we spoke had just joined Toastmasters where she was looking forward to giving her maiden speech. She lost Big Dog Daniel and bought another whose name I forget.

    Good for her!! Yippeeee!  It's always good to complete something that helps in making a better life.    I'm sorry to hear about Daniel.  Nobody or animal is replaceable. But, it does open a door for another to share lives with. Thanks Didge.  It's great to hear about old friends.  Hugs and pats always! :) :)

    The infamous "Squabbits" that exclusively feed and breed on our hill.  
    Above and beyond "Squabbits,"  I think the coolest bird I found that lives here is the Road Runner.  Being a huge fan of the cartoon as a child, it's been neat to see them in real life form.  They live in and around our backyard and hill.  We also have a pack of coyotes that live in and around our backyard and hill.  It's given me a better understanding of the cartoon.   I didn't realize how bizarrely accurate they were.  The relationship between the two is pretty much as Warner Brothers said it was!

    Hi ALF~  You bring an excellent predator into the picture of the survival of the road runner.  We have plenty of them too.  I've been bitten by one right in our driveway/carport.  We have one kind of as a pet.  I was bitten by one of her off spring.  She's stayed around though and lives under our house.  We have a great relationship with her.  She leaves the road runners alone. Instead, she keeps our house clear of mice and other unfavorable rodents.  We don't bother her and she doesn't bother us.  It's a great relationship. We all live in harmony. :) :)

  • I've lived in Arizona, off-and-on, for about four years and I've seen a few. Saw one fly once, but that's pretty rare being as they can run 26 mph.   • Those things can really MOVE can't they. That was impressive. And I was surprised to see an Indian motor cycle. I didn't think they were still making them.

    Exactly Didge!  They're crafty, extremely fast, and strong.  Surprisingly, they aren't that big.  At least the ones I've seen around here aren't.

  • Technically, in 1987, they were rated as extinct. The remaining few birds (27) were captured and bred in captivity until 1991, when enough birds were available to reintroduce them to the wild.

    I almost went with this magnificent bird too ALF!  They are incredible.  One day, I thought I saw one.  I wasn't sure and had Don come out and check it out.  He thought so too.  Their wing span is so big, it seems like it would block the sun!  Beautiful birds!!     I live in Florida, so we have a lot of interesting critters, but I have to go with the gator. This video was taken about 3 weeks ago in Lakeland.
