I suppose ALL REPUBLICANS love the putdown Mitch MicConnell directed at Senator Elizabeth Warren silencing her. Dems did not. Am I right?

She was reading a letter written in 1986 by Coretta Scott King who wrote it to Congress outlining all the objections to electing Jeff Sessions to some position at that time because of his racist views/actions. He was rejected at that time. McConnell accused her of defaming a Senator. She was reading the words of Coretta Scott King! The guy in charge asked if there were objections to her continuing to read and McConnell said he objected. So Senator Warren was told to take her seat and she was red-carded so that she will be unable to participate in any further Senate hearings on Jeff Sessions. In other words they told her to sit down and shut up. Coretta Scott King's words apparently are unwelcome on the floor of the Senate. But rude/insulting/disgraceful Senatorial actions are just fine. What do YOU think? Why?

As I understand it the rule is you cannot criticize another Senator motives etc.  And this was not the first time she was warned...I don't know the details on that either.  I also don't see why the other members did not stand up and finish the letter.

I don't really feel the rule is appropriate. I understand that they are trying to keep the Congress from being like some other governments where they are throwing chairs and even punches at one another.
But if the person be debated for an appointment is a Senator....how to you oppose them.  It should at least be waved in that situation.

The very next day FOUR MALE SENATORS read the Coretta Scott King 1986 letter into the Senate record without incident m2c. The letter outlined all the reasons why Sessions was not fit to be a judge. It was an outrageous thing McConnell did and I hope he pays for it. He is a rude/obnoxious/mean-spirited WORTHLESS piece of trashy homo sapiens. I hope he gets what he deserves for all the things he has done throughout the years to obstruct/demean/deny/denigrate/derogate/block. I do. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday to thee! :)

Yes but even they say they did in a way that is a acceptable under the rules. Which means they agree that Sen Warren did violate the rules.

Sen. Jeff Merkley read the letter Tuesday hoping to provide some context as to why King was concerned about the Alabama lawmaker's commitment to the voting rights of black Americans when he was under consideration for a federal judgship.

"I wanted to take a few moments now and share some of the letter that was discussed earlier and share it in a fashion that is appropriate under our rules," he said. "I think it's important for us to understand the context of what this letter was all about."

SIGH. Of course you accept the McConnell view. It is the party-line DOGMA and there is no other thing you can do without being a RINO. The information is the same m2c. Word for word. The excuses given by you and the others  for the insulting disparity in treatment are ridiculously absurd but they make sense to you because they have to OR ELSE! I understand that very well.  Your brain and mine are not wired the same. Not your fault or mine. It is what is and ever thus shall it be what it is and nothing will ever change that. You will always see good where I see evil and vice-versa. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday to thee! :

Then it was something she said prefacing the reading of the letter. The Dem Sen Merkley said he would read it within the rules. That is a Dem saying Warren did violate the rules. Nothing about what McConnell said. I am talking about the Dem said.

Lol. Actually we did need the rules. They were passed because our congressmen were beating each other with canes on the Senate floor. This post was edited by my2cents at July 17, 2018 2:21 AM MDT

    Hello again, my:

I stand corrected.. We DO need rules..  So, people like ME and Elizabeth Warren can BREAK 'em..

Look.  Dissent WORKS.  This was political theater at its best..  McConnell wanted something and he GOT it.  Warren wanted something too, and she GOT it.  By BREAKING the "rules", she propelled herself into the lead for the 2020 nomination..

It certainly did put her into the spotlight. I don't think she can win.

    Hello Rosie:

I don't know WHY Mitch McConnell invoked Rule 19..  I just know that shutting down a WOMAN, who's reading a letter from another WOMEN, who happened to be married to our civil rights ICON, when considering whether Jeff Sessions is a RACIST or not, LOOKED very, very bad for the Republicans...

Or, I SHOULD say it looked bad to only SOME of us..

You know by now that Senator Tom Udall (sp?) read  that very same Coretta King letter into the record this morning do you not? McConnell, the A-hole, gave all kinds of "reasons" why there was a difference. All bullsh** from a great bullsh** artist. But this time? I think he bit off more than he can chew and I think he had dam* well better walk it back or die on that hill on the cross of his own making. The disdain/insult he flung on to the widow of Martin Luther King, Jr is irreparable. He is as much of a doofus as donny apparently.. Remember in the olden days when Senators referred to one another as "the distinguished Senator from....."? I do too. McConnell should  be rebuked/censured/PREVENTED from participating in any Senate activity. He should be STRIPPED of his high-horse position and relegated to the heap of very bad boys. He has gone too far and should  be slapped or smacked or spanked or grounded! Thank you for your reply excon. What comes next? Your guess?

The republicans know what they are getting in Sessions and that is what they want and don't want anything negative said about him.
They are so far right that they can't see past their own nose.
There is no middle ground anymore

More's the pity. But that is no excuse for the outrageous treatment accorded a United States Senator on the floor of the Senate by another Senator! I'm sure you know that what Senator Warren was red-carded for trying to read into the Senate record (a 1986 letter from Coretta Scott King outlining all the reasons Jeff Sessions was unsuitable to be a judge at that time) was read into the Senate record the very next day by FOUR MALE SENATORS! Mitch McConnell is a classless  A**HOLE! I hope he gets exactly what he deserves for all of his obstruction and illegal ploys and insulting/vulgar attacks and unpatriotic unAmerican ignoring of the Constitution. He is a worthless piece of trashy homo sapiens. Thank you for your reply Lulu'sMom and Happy Thursday! :) This post was edited by RosieG at February 9, 2017 9:00 AM MST

It doesn't make a damn bit of difference if he is suitable or not. That is who Trump wants and the Repubs. don't have the balls to go against him even if they don't agree with his picks.

If Sessions is such a racist, why did the NAACP give Sessions an award for Governmental Excellence.
