Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» K. Conway is in trouble for telling folks to buy Ivanka Trump clothes. It's illegal to use public office for private gain. LOCK HER UP?
But she is promoting Trump/Trump related business.. it's a conflict of interests to use any public office to promote private business.. it's entirely different to say buy American than to say by this particular person's product.. as opposed to another.. there are quite likely many American companies selling the same thing.. it's unfair, in the technical use of the term, to promote one business over another, particularly when it's related to the prez
well i reserve judgment til i have seen it but.. if that's true then as you know i am nothing if not entirely fair.. and the same applies.. as I have said all along.. no one, but no one in public office and a position of trust should abuse that trust to flog goods ...
OK i looked... not quite the same thing but similar.. objectively I wonder whether the fact that the brewery had just received $70 mil federal money makes it slightly different..in that fed money is public money no? so that would be in the interests of the country to promote the beer? I still think it's an abuse but perhaps less magnitude.
I did not know the brewery got public money..... So you think if Ivanka s former company received Gov money, you believe Conway's statement would be in the country's best interest?
Goose beer? Does he own it? Seriously m2c that is so lame and not remotely equivalent. You are losing credibility rapidly. Makes me sad. Thank you for your reply.
To me it is equivalent. They got tax payer money. Ivanka's former company got no tax money. If it had would it be in the government interest to plug it?
SHE IS PART OF THE TRUMP GOVERNMENT! That is the point m2c. Surely you realize that do you not? What she said is ILLEGAL. If TRUMP dumps her then she is a private citizen with no ties to the government in which case she can shill for whomever she wants. AS PART OF THE TRUMP GOVERNMENT she is out of line and in trouble. I cannot believe you do not understand that.
Conway may have broken key ethics rule by touting Ivanka Trump’s products, experts say

President Trump’s official counselor, Kellyanne Conway, may have broken a key ethics rule Thursday morning when she told TV audiences to “go buy Ivanka’s stuff.”
Federal employees are banned from using their public office to endorse products, regulations state.
Conway, speaking to “Fox & Friends” viewers from the White House briefing room, was responding to boycotts of Ivanka Trump merchandise and Nordstrom’s discontinuation of stocking her clothing and shoe lines, which the retailer said was in response to low sales and which the president assailed as unfair.
“I’m going to give it a free commercial here,” Conway said of the president’s daughter’s merchandise brand. “Go buy it today.”

Conway and officials from the White House and the Office of Government Ethics did not respond to requests for comment Thursday.
Attorneys, including Campaign Legal Center general counsel Lawrence Noble, said Conway’s endorsement directly conflicted with OGE rules designed to separate government policy from private business dealings.
Don W. Fox, former general counsel and former acting director of OGE, told The Washington Post that “Conway’s encouragement to buy Ivanka’s stuff would seem to be a clear violation of rules prohibiting misuse of public office for anyone’s private gain.”
He added: “This is jaw-dropping to me. This rule has been promulgated by the federal Office of Government Ethics as part of the Standards of Conduct for all executive branch employees and it applies to all members of the armed forces as well.”
Enforcement measures are largely left to the head of the federal agency — in Conway’s case, the White House. One lawyer said a typical executive-branch employee who violated the rule could face significant disciplinary action, including a multi-day suspension and loss of pay.

Oh, she's more than safe. I'd say Trump will be giving her a raise for the free advertising she was able to score for his daughter. ;-)
