i was a poor sleeper.. until i got fed up and got medication for it.. take it about 10:30, fall asleep about 11:30 and than i stay asleep the whole night with no interruptions like before..
falling a sleep at a reasonable time was never an issue. it was staying asleep that was the problem. when 3 or 4am rolled around i'd wake up and than i couldn't fall asleep again until 6am.. than i'd get up to an hour in a half of sleep after that... this cycle only became an issue when i started entering my mid 20's. im not 10 or 15 anymore where i could handle less sleep. (as you get older, you become more tired and drained throughout the day)

I used to be a good sleeper (I remember once, when I was in the army, I slept on a sealed road using a house brick for a pillow, just to see if I could). These days, who knows? Some nights are reasonable, some are bad, but I don't look for good any more. Maybe I need some of that medication.
I generally get 6-8 hours each night. Most of the time I'm a good sleeper, though I do tend to get up at least once to use the bathroom during the night, but I always go back to sleep really quickly (unless I am stressed about something, in which case I might get fewer hours).
When I was working nights I could sleep through anything -- except one thing. When the kids got home from school Mrs Didge often yelled at them to be quiet because I was sleeping. Really. :D
It was a crying shame about your hound. Little Zoe is still hanging in though we're keeping her out of this heat. I thought we'd lost her at the end of November but she came good and is showing no signs of going anywhere for a while.
I usually get about 5 hours of sleep every night. Although, most of this week it has been about 4 hours every night. I can thank the Elder Scrolls Online and Battlestar Galactica for that.
Due to a medication change only 5-6 hours of sleep with at least 2-3 wake-ups during the night. Once in a while I'll actually sleep 8 hours. I won't take sleep medications because I won't hear the alarm in the morning when I take them. Fortunately 5-6 hours of sleep have been enough.
My insomnia is mostly down to anxiety. It's not as bad as it used to be, but I still find it hard to fall asleep. Melatonin tablets help, but I don't like to take it too often.
