Trolls? Nah. Flame warriors!

We hear many complaints about trolls but they're small change. They might provoke the odd skirmish but rarely indulge in flame wars. Flame Warriors are a bigger problem and can wreak havoc on a site.

A very clever guy named Mike Reed (artist? cartoonist? writer?) put up a site featuring an alphabetical list of flame Warriors beginning with Acne (who constantly whines about how, like, his life really sucks) and ending with Yuk Yuk (who likes to share weak jokes).

Take a look at the list (click on Flame Warrior Roster) at this link:  http://www.flamewarriorsguide.com/index.htm and share your favourites with us. Or, if you prefer, invent some of your own. (Be kind.)

Here's Grunter, who always responds to discussion forum messages with a single word or a short phrase, and he NEVER edits quoted material

  • Very interesting but you are surely not suggesting we have any of those dreadful creatures here? Heaven forbid! We are all kindness personified here.  Have you seen any of those warrior thingys here?

  • Nary a one, Daydream. We have a very friendly site. But I've contributed to sites where these people lurk and it ain't good. Even so, it's a fun web page and I wanted to share it.

This got to be my choice. So lovely predictable when in their mood...

ALLCAPS attempts to compensate for his limited rhetorical weaponry through the extravagant use of capitalized words - something netizens refer to as SHOUTING. Sure, a sprinkling of capitalized words can add some zip to a thrust, but they should be used sparingly. Even worse from a tactical point of view, too much shouting alerts other Warriors to the opponent's verbal WEAKNESS and emotional EXCITABILITY.

  • We had one or two of those on Blurtit. They never stayed long -- just a glimmer or anger and then, like snow upon the desert's dusty face, were no more.

One or two jumps into my head, and yes, we had a few passing through over the time I've been a member here, too. I find it hard to take it serious when they use capitalised words in their sentences as a general rule, I can read and will find the important things stated if they are written in an appropriate way. Lol. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at February 11, 2017 2:15 PM MST

  • I often use caps in place of bold if I want to emphasise something, but only for a word or two.

You do, but never in every post or comment you make. That is something else. I've used it on a very few occasions myself, either out of fun in a banter, or really frustrated losing my patience with someone. The latter happens almost never but I do recall one occasion with one member. Well, after all I'm only human too. I think, at least. Lol.

  • Only human? Rubbish! You are a goddess. Well, a demi-goddess, at least. :)

  • I read one of them and it was full of hate. Sent it to two of her cronies on Askaholics but was silly enough to address it to the wrong person who then forwarded it to me (since I was one of her victims). She was also attacking Waldorff and Sephira.

  • Oh yeah. I heard she's here now, incognito. It won't be long before she stirs up trouble. It's in her nature.

  • I think I know who it is. Has a private profile. Kind of dumb but what do I know or......care.
Beside, the first time she tangles with some of the people here will be the only time. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at February 11, 2017 5:48 PM MST
